These programs run under MS-DOS in 32-bit protected mode on 386 or
higher CPU's
and require 1024x768x256-color VESA compatible
graphics.
They will run in the DOS box under Windows 95/98, but not Windows NT.
HEATFLOW (143,684 byte file)
Interactive demonstration of heat flow along a semi-infinite rod. Includes steady or
periodic heat sources, animated output with temperature versus distance and time on
several combinations of linear and logarithmic scales. Properties of the rod may be
changed and parts of the equations may be disabled to illustrate diffusion versus
propagation. Solutions from Carslaw and Jaeger (1959) [equations 4.2(4), 4.2(7) and
4.2(1)] using the Fox (1934) and Angstrom (1861) methods.
(NOTE: Versions earlier than Copyright 2000 have sqrt(2) error.)
CHARGE (85,117 byte file)
External sinewave electrical field stimulus applied to two opposite sign charges moving
with finite velocity as a function of frequency of stimulus. Animation shows
amplitude and phase of charge separation (polarization) motion fit Debye (1929) Pellat
(1899) single relaxation equation. Discusses requirement of multiple distributed
relaxation mechanisms to create log-normal distribution and Cole-Cole (1941)
equation. Discusses consequences of frequency dependence in terms of dispersion in
wave propagation (demonstrated in GRORADAR program).
LHARC.EXE to uncompress above packages
(31,256 byte file)
After downloading the above files, type "lharc x
heatflow" to generate 2 files:
HEATFLOW.EXE the program
EQNTRPLX.FON a font file required by the program
Type HEATFLOW to execute,
and in a similar fashion for CHARGE.
