Multipathing

[Under Construction]

Multipathing is the result of geometry such that propagating waves leave the transmit antenna and travel to the receive antenna by multiple different paths.  The difference in the path lengths, velocities and attenuations results in constructive and destructive interference upon arrival at the receiver.  This results in complicated changes to the received waveform.  An example is a path between a transmitter in one borehole and a receiver in a second borehole through a tunnel combining with one leaking around the tunnel.  If the tunnel is air-filled, the path through the tunnel is slightly faster than the path around the tunnel.
