Troubleshooting
Error Messages:
If you get the copyright violation message, then you probably don't have your CD-ROM
drivers setup correctly for MS-DOS. CD-ROM drivers for DOS must exist in your
CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT They will look something like:
in config.sys:
DEVICEHIGH=C:\CDROM\NEC_BM.SYS /D:MSCD001 /PIO
in autoexec.bat:
C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD001 /L:H
MODXCONF.EXE Intel
utility to change GRORADAR.EXE memory usage
MODXCONF.DEX (this will make no difference to GRO_DEMO.EXE)
This will not work from the CD -- GRORADAR.EXE must be copied to a hard drive to be
modified. You will probably not need to do this. However, you will need to do this if you
have more than 128 MB RAM or get one of the following error messages:
DOS Extender: Error
X0135: Extended memory exhausted during application load
DOS Extender: Error X0134: Insufficient extended memory
DOS Extender: Error X0130: Failure detected during application load
Start by typing: MODXCONF GRORADAR.EXE followed by Enter, and
follow the instructions.
If you get one of the following
messages:
DOS Extender: Error
X0131: Insufficient DOS memory
DOS Extender: Error X0132: DOS memory exhausted during load
Your system's available DOS memory is too small, and you'll need to free memory by
removing terminate and stay resident (TSR) programs, unneeded device drivers, VDISK's,
etc. from your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT until sufficient memory is available.
If GRORADAR.EXE or GRO_DEMO.EXE
cease to respond to the keyboard, the program may have crashed (but you can't always tell
this from a graphics window) -- try typing:
MODE CO80 followed by ENTER
before rebooting the machine. If the DOS prompt returns, restart the program. If you can
remember what happened and what you were doing, please report it as a bug and it will be
fixed. This can happen after extended use of the program from exhaustion of available
contiguous blocks of memory. For this reason, it is always advisable to start the program
afresh for each dataset. (In other words, don't keep bringing in new field datasets one
after another without Quitting the program periodically.)
If all else fails, Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot the machine.
Trouble Printing:
The hardcopy output from this program is
produced as HP-GL or Adobe PostScript files that are suitable for copying to HP LaserJet
printers (just copy *.plt LPT1: or copy *.eps LPT1:) or
import into various programs. To print PostScript to non-PostScript printers, use a RIP or translator like Ghostscript, PowerRIP, GoScript,
or Image Alchemy to send the files to Epson,
Canon, HP, Encad or other non-PostScript printers. Ghostscript and GSview are recommended.
GRORADAR has been tested with GhostScript up to 17x22-inch (tabloid size) with HP
LaserJet and Epson Stylus Color printers. These programs can also convert EPS files
to other formats for import into word processing software. Further resources are
available at: http://www.adobe.com and http://www.PostScript.com.
Note: the demo version of GRORADAR can not print.
PCMCIA Digitizer Card
Trouble:
With the computer up and booted to DOS,
insert the PCMCIA card and you should hear a double beep. Removing the card should
also give the double beep. One low tone instead of the double beep is indicative of
driver troubles. The config.sys should include:
rem SystemSoft CardWorks(TM) PCMCIA drivers:
device=C:\CARDWORK\SSTPIC95.EXE /SKT:2
device=C:\CARDWORK\CS.EXE /POLL:1
device=C:\CARDWORK\CSALLOC.EXE
device=C:\CARDWORK\CARDID.EXE
or equivalent lines for
drivers for your laptop's PCMCIA card bus, and the autoexec.bat should have lines like:
SET CBDIREC=C:\GRORADAR
CBCLIENT
cd c:\windows
call c:\windows\command.com
c:\windows\win.com /wx
SCOPE to test PCMCIA setup (71,642 byte file)
LHARC.EXE to uncompress SCOPE (31,256 byte file)
after downloading, lharc x scope
Trouble finding DOS PCMCIA drivers:
Try using IBM
PC DOS 2000 in your laptop (it comes with PCMCIA drivers)(this also works for
GRORADAR and Windows NT).
(which may require Power Quest Partition Magic
to coexist with another operating system).
or search PCMCIA Association Resource Pages
If you have any other problems, send email to golhoeft@g-p-r.com with sufficient information to
characterize and duplicate the problem.

Solutions will be posted here.
